It’s still holding air. But what really sucks is these rear tires have a ton of life left, and I’ll need fronts soon >.<

Dang that’s actually impressive.
No chance of patching it though

Doesn’t look like it even penetrated the belt layer, or not much if it did. Lucky miss, should be okay to pull the nail and keep using.

Dunlop tires are awesome!
Somebody must be pissed at you tho

It doesn’t look like full penetration. I would try to back it out slowly, and see if it starts to release any air. You should be able to drive on it, but I would get that replaced this weekend.

good opportunity to put these on it

I second this. The tires still have a lot of meat on them. Looks like the nail is just in the tread layer.

Normally I’d do just that, but I’m taking the car on a 7 hour roadtrip to NJ next weekend for the Bear Mountain MR2 meet, and I’m not taking chances. I got two replacements coming for $140 total. Not bad.

Might be okay actually. Pull it out and see if it holds.

Not bad, but don’t throw these away either.

I had this happen once. Took it to a shop and they took the wheel off, examined it, determined that I wasn’t losing air, and took the nail out. As long as it penetrates the tread, no need for a new tire. Doesn’t affect the strength of the tire either. Tires have a strong bottom layer and a softer layer for the tread. The guy charged me $5 for coming in. Lol They were cool.

No need, the tire doesn’t rely on the tread to hold air. So long as the strong bottom layers are intact, you’re good to go.

Didn’t know that there was such a thing. Kind of wish I had my MR2 up here (NY) to take out, but it’s still living in Florida until the end of winter. Want to do some work on it and seat the underside before subjecting an already rusty and rust-prone car to a northern winter.

Yes indeed.

I had the same thing happen back when I put my current tires on. Literally the same week I put them on. Took the nail out and have driven at least 5000 miles on them. Do whatever makes you feel safest, but next time it happens, if there is a next time, I wouldn’t worry too much.

Love those tires on my Miata, they performed admirably down at Deal’s Gap and are quite good for day to day driving. I dont think I would want to autocross them but they probably wouldn’t do that bad. Best part is though how cheap they are. Sure, I really want to have some RE71Rs but these are less than half the price and last 4 times as long. I am just really impressed that they do so well for how cheap they are.

Pull it, fill it with rubber sealant. If the tire gods are in favor of ye, it didn’t actually get through the tread.
If it did...well. Perhaps you should make and offering of your tires in a fiery burnout sacrifice.

I’m hearing this from a lot of people. I’ll cancel the order, and drive the car to work this week to see how it holds up. If it starts leaking I’ll get one from work.

I’m a big fan. They are my daily driver tires as long as temps reach over 55*F which is late March - late November around here. A set of General Altimax Arctic go on for the winter, and I have a set of Toyo Proxys R888 for the track. You can never have too many tires.

It’s fine. Take the nail out and you’re good to go. Trust me, I’m a “professional".

If you see a bulge, that’d be the sign. Should be okay though!

Ive got the same setup going on basically. General Altimax Arctics for the winter and a set of Hoosiers for autox. My constant two sets of wheels in my apartment is a hassle but at least I have plenty of closet space. I am wondering how late into the season I will be able to keep the Direzzas on. I am hoping at least mid November here in NJ since I figure anything above 40 will be acceptable.

Could just be through the tread block and be totally fine.

I actually had these happen to my RE-11As. I went to see if I could get a new and they said “Out of production, can’t” So instead they let me buy new tires and refunded me the old ones.
